Achievement Reporting System


Standards Referenced Reporting

Second grade will utilize standards referenced to report student progress for the 2015-2016 school year. Our district learning standards and goals have been updated and revised creating the need to revise the reporting system and student grade card as well.


Explanation of Marking System

New performance level descriptors have been adopted to better match the district standards and give students, teachers, and parents a clearer picture of each child’s achievement in relation to the learning standards and goals.



AD = Advanced

Students will receive “AD” when they successfully demonstrate an application of explicitly taught knowledge or skills in an unknown situation or above grade level expectations.

PR = Proficient


“TARGET ZONE” for all students!

Students will receive “PR” when they can successfully demonstrate knowledge and skill level in the “target” zone of district learning standards and goals.

BA = Basic

Students will receive “BA” when they can successfully demonstrate the prerequisite or basic skills needed to meet proficiency of district learning standards and goals.

BB = Below Basic

Students will receive “BB” when they are beginning to meet basic level learning standards and goals, but still need extensive support from the teacher.



Understanding the Learning Standards

The grade card is a comprehensive list of all knowledge and skills that students need to master by the end of the school year. Therefore, students receiving PR marks in the first marking periods indicates the child is “on target” to meet the standard by the end of the school year. The standards are also written in “teacher language” which may bring about questions.


How are student marks determined?

Teachers will use a variety of methods to collect “evidence” of student learning. Some of these may include; teacher observation, anecdotal notes, classroom activities, informal assessments or “snapshot” quizzes, and formal assessments such as a written test.
